Are you passionate about transforming city landscapes and ensuring lush, sustainable urban environments? We are seeking a dedicated Urban Forrest Officer to oversee urban forestry initiatives, primarily working with the Belmont local council. This role combines office-based planning and administration with essential onsite inspections to respond to tree-related customer requests. You’ll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on urban biodiversity, climate resilience, and community wellbeing, all while working in a dynamic environment that balances desk work with field activities.

Required Skills:

  • Proven experience in urban forestry, arboriculture, or a related environmental field
  • Strong knowledge of tree species, planting, pruning, and maintenance practices
  • Ability to assess tree health and diagnose arboricultural issues during site inspections
  • Excellent communication skills for engaging with stakeholders, community members, and local councils
  • Capable of developing and implementing urban forestry plans and responding effectively to customer requests
  • Strong organisational and project management skills

Nice to Have Skills:

  • Certifications in arboriculture (e.g., ISA Certified Arborist) or related specialisations
  • Knowledge of local regulations and environmental policies regarding urban greenery
  • Experience working with city planning or municipal infrastructure teams, particularly in Belmont
  • Proficiency in GIS mapping and data analysis tools

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Urban Forestry, Environmental Science, Landscape Architecture, or a related discipline
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in urban forestry or arboriculture projects

Other Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel within urban areas and perform site inspections and assessments
  • Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation
  • Comfortable working primarily in an office setting with regular site visits, performing inspections in various weather conditions
