Statutory Planning Officer 
Short-term Contract | Potential for Permanency | Local Government Opportunity

We are seeking a Statutory Planning Officer to join our client's expanding team within the local government sector. This position will commence on a short-term contract with a strong potential for extension or permanency.

Position Overview: 
The Statutory Planning Officer will play a key role in the orderly development and redevelopment of the City through the assessment and coordination of planning applications and related functions.

Key responsibilities include: 
  • Assessing planning applications and preparing reports and recommendations for Council consideration
  • Ensuring all assessments and processes are compliant with relevant legislation, regulations, policies, and statutory timeframes
  • Providing high-quality customer service through telephone, counter, and on-site consultation
  • Coordinating community consultation processes as required
  • Developing and maintaining effective working relationships across departments to facilitate collaboration and information sharing
  • Supporting the Manager and Coordinator with the day-to-day operations of the planning team
About you:
The successful candidate will possess:
  • Bachelor of Arts in Urban and Regional Planning or equivalent qualification.
  • Relevant work experience in Planning - Government experience is highly advantageous 
  • Extensive knowledge of Planning and related legislation in WA.
  • Extensive knowledge of the principles and practice of Urban and Regional Planning.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to prepare high-quality reports and correspondence
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills, with the ability to manage priorities and resolve complex planning matters
  • Well-developed interpersonal, coordination, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to exercise sound independent judgement in the assessment of planning and environmental reports and the preparation of related policy and guidelines
  • High level of computer proficiency, including the Microsoft Office suite
  • Possession of or the ability to obtain a National Police Clearance
