Senior Strategic Planner
As a senior member of the Strategic Planning team, you'll work across both strategic and statutory planning functions, contributing to the orderly and sustainable development of the City. Your work will directly support the delivery of the Strategic Community Plan and Corporate Business Plan — helping shape a city that is thoughtfully planned and built for the future.
Senior Statutory Planner
In this role, you'll be at the forefront of day-to-day planning decisions, working closely with applicants to navigate planning challenges and deliver positive, compliant outcomes. You'll represent the City with professionalism at SAT mediations and hearings, ensuring development is considered, compliant, and aligned with the community's vision.
What your day may look like
- Leading the assessment of complex planning matters including structure plans, scheme amendments, subdivisions, and major development applications
- Providing specialist planning advice to Council, internal teams, applicants, and the wider community
- Preparing high quality reports, recommendations, and planning documents
- Representing the City at SAT mediations, hearings, and planning reviews
- Supporting and mentoring Planning Officers as they grow in confidence and capability
- Collaborating across departments to balance compliance, liveability, and innovation
- Undertaking research, forward planning studies, and policy development
- Conducting site inspections, ensuring compliance, and guiding corrective actions
- Monitoring legislative changes and contributing to process and service delivery improvements
What you’ll bring
- Qualifications in Urban and Regional Planning or equivalent
- Extensive experience in strategic and/or statutory planning
- Proven experience assessing structure plans, scheme amendments, subdivisions, and major development applications
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Advanced analytical and research skills to resolve complex planning and land use matters
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- A collaborative mindset with the ability to support and guide others across the planning function
- In-depth knowledge of WA planning legislation and frameworks
- The ability to work with resilience, autonomy, and a genuine team spirit
- Willingness to obtain a National Police Clearance
