We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Governance Officer to join a well-respected local government organisation. This is a fantastic opportunity for a governance professional to play a key role in strengthening governance frameworks, ensuring legislative compliance, and supporting best-practice decision making across the organisation.
This role will see you providing high-level governance advice to internal stakeholders while supporting the organisation in maintaining strong governance integrity, effective oversight engagement, and continuous improvement across governance processes.
Position Overview
The Senior Governance Officer will act as a technical specialist, providing authoritative governance advice and support across the organisation. You will work closely with internal stakeholders, senior leaders, and governance teams to ensure legislative compliance, effective information management, and the consistent application of governance frameworks.
Core Responsibilities
- Provide accurate and timely governance and probity advice to managers and senior leaders
- Interpret and apply relevant legislation, policies, frameworks, and guidelines to governance matters
- Identify governance risks and escalate matters appropriately in line with policy and delegation
- Coordinate engagement with external oversight bodies including auditors, regulators, and monitors
- Manage complex information requests ensuring responses are accurate, reviewed, and appropriately approved
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information in accordance with legislative and ethical standards
- Collaborate with internal teams to manage complex or sensitive governance matters
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of governance frameworks, policies, and processes
- Maintain accurate records and documentation to support transparency and compliance
Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated experience working within governance, probity, risk, or compliance frameworks in a complex organisation
- Strong ability to exercise sound judgement and discretion when managing confidential or sensitive matters
- Proven stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
- High level information management capability with strong attention to accuracy and detail
- Experience contributing to governance improvements, policy development, or process enhancements
- Knowledge or experience within a local government or public sector environment is highly regarded
- Willingness to provide a National Police Clearance
