12-Month Fixed-Term Contract | Local Government | $125,955 - $133,450 + Super

Are you a strategic communications professional looking to make a meaningful impact in one of Perth's most visible and dynamic local government organisations?

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Communications Advisor to join their team on a 12-month full-time contract with the possibility of continuation. Based in the heart of Perth, this is an exciting opportunity to influence public engagement, shape key messaging, and support high-profile initiatives that positively impact the local community.

About the Role

Reporting to the Media and Communications Lead, you will play a key role in protecting and enhancing the organisation's reputation through the delivery of strategic communication and media initiatives. You will provide trusted advice to senior leaders, develop engaging content across multiple platforms, manage media relations, and support community engagement outcomes.

This position offers a unique opportunity to work closely with executive leadership and key stakeholders while contributing to projects that help shape the future of Perth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic communication and media plans that support organisational objectives and major projects.
  • Provide expert communications advice to senior executives and key internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare media releases, speeches, statements, key messages, and content for digital, social and traditional media channels.
  • Manage media enquiries, emerging issues and reputational risks, ensuring consistent and effective messaging.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with media representatives, government agencies and community stakeholders.
  • Monitor media coverage and communication performance, providing insights and recommendations to support continuous improvement.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Significant experience in a senior communications, media or journalism position, ideally within a complex or politically sensitive environment.
  • Strong expertise in media relations, stakeholder engagement, reputation management and crisis communications.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience providing strategic advice and support to senior executives and leadership teams.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • A current National Police Clearance (or willingness to obtain one).
