Are you an experienced building design professional looking to shape the future of a dynamic city?

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Building Designer to lead the planning and coordination of building design and documentation for capital and operational projects within a local council team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering high-quality, compliant and sustainable building outcomes that support your community and city operations.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Lead Design Coordination
  • Plan and oversee the design and documentation of capital and operational building projects.
  • Develop clear project scopes, risk assessments, budgets and timelines.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations, standards and City frameworks.
Be the Technical Authority
  • Provide expert advice on building design, engineering, compliance and sustainability.
  • Translate complex technical issues into practical, understandable solutions.
  • Support project delivery teams through to construction completion.
Manage Consultants & Drive Outcomes
  • Procure and manage architects, engineers and specialist consultants.
  • Review design documentation to ensure quality, compliance and alignment with City objectives.
  • Prepare reports and briefing notes for Executive Leadership and Council.

About You:
You are a confident and experienced building professional who thrives in a collaborative environment.
You bring:
  • A qualification in Architecture, Engineering, Project Management or similar.
  • Extensive experience in building design and construction.
  • Strong consultant management and procurement experience.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to influence senior stakeholders.
Desirable:
  • Sustainability or universal design expertise.
  • Experience with heritage or conservation works.
  • Government sector experience.
