We are seeking an experienced Environmental Planning Officer to join the local council within our Southern Suburbs.
About the role:
You will contribute to the success and sustainability of both the environment and the community by providing expert advice, overseeing operations, and delivering key environmental projects. You will also ensure that new developments are planned with careful consideration of their environmental impacts.
Objectives:
Provide expert environmental advice
on protection,
rehabilitation, enhancement and management of the City's natural and built environment particularly as part of the strategic and statutory planning process.
Manage environmental projects including the preparation of environmental management plans, strategies and policies.
Assist in long-term planning to ensure the City's growth is environmentally responsible.
- Prepare, complete and implement environmental plans, projects, strategies, and policies.
- Ensure local projects follow environmental laws and guidelines.
- Reviewing and advising on planning applications, such as Scheme Amendments, Structure Plans and Development Applications.
- Preparing reports and recommendations for planning committees.
- Engaging with the public, developers, and stakeholders to address queries and concerns.
- Strong knowledge of environmental and planning legislation and its relationship to the environmental legislation.
- Sound knowledge of environmental impact assessment in accordance with Part IV of the Environmental Protection Act 1986
- Comprehensive knowledge of the preparation and review of environmental management plans, reports, strategies and policies.
- Working knowledge of sustainability principles, bushland and wetland conservation principles and environmental best practice and management.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate and influence effectively.
- Strong problem-solving, research, and project management abilities.
- A proven track record in land use planning, environmental management, strategic planning, and/or environmental planning within local, state, or federal contexts.
- Experience in working in the planning system, including liaison with those in the development industry (preferred).
- Experience in the preparation and implementation of environmental management plans and projects.
- Degree in Environmental Science or equivalent
- Western Australian Current & Valid Driver’s License
- National Police Clearance issued within the last 3 months or willingness to obtain
