Make an Impact on Environment, Rehabilitation & Mine Closure
We are seeking an experienced Environment & Closure Advisor to join a high-performing mining
operation and play a key role in environmental management, compliance, rehabilitation and
closure planning.
This is not a generalist HSE position. We are looking for an environmental professional with
strong technical qualifications and hands-on mining experience who can step into an operational
site environment and make an immediate impact.
We currently have two back-to-back opportunities available. The first position is required as
soon as possible, with an anticipated start of Wednesday, 2 September. The second opportunity
is expected to commence around October/November.
The Role
Working on a 7:7 FIFO roster, you will be responsible for supporting the site's environmental
performance while contributing to long-term rehabilitation and closure outcomes.
You'll spend a good portion of your time in the field, working alongside operational teams,
contractors and consultants while also managing environmental data, compliance requirements,
reporting and closure-related activities.
Your typical day may include:
- Conducting field-based environmental inspections covering water quality, dust, hazardous materials and waste management
- Monitoring flora, fauna, weeds, pests and rehabilitation to assess progress toward successful ecosystem restoration
- Supervising environmental and closure contractors and consultants
- Calibrating, maintaining and checking environmental monitoring equipment
- Collecting, verifying and analysing environmental data and identifying trends
- Preparing high-quality environmental reports for internal stakeholders and regulators
- Supporting compliance reporting, ESG disclosures and formal closure documentation
- Supporting the administration and compliance of Land Use Permits
- Participating in environmental incident investigations and continuous improvement initiatives
- Providing technical environmental advice to site teams, contractors and stakeholders
- Overseeing the site's geospatial database and supporting the management of closure risk registers
- Engaging with Traditional Owners, local communities and regulators
- Delivering environmental training and awareness programs where required
- Supporting the broader environmental management system and ensuring site activities remain compliant with approvals and regulatory requirements
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who can combine strong environmental technical knowledge with
practical mining experience.
You'll ideally have:
- A tertiary qualification in Environmental Science or a related discipline
- 5+ years' experience working in environmental roles
- At least 2 years' experience within the mining industry
- Strong knowledge of environmental compliance monitoring, sampling and reporting
- Experience working with Environmental Management Systems
- Proficiency with GIS software, preferably ArcGIS and/or QGIS
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach
- The ability to work independently in a remote mining environment
- A current manual C-class driver's licence – you must be confident driving a manual vehicle
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to work effectively across operational teams
Desirable:
- Current First Aid certification
- Snake handling experience/certification
- Experience with mine rehabilitation and closure planning
- Experience working with Traditional Owners, regulators and environmental consultants
FIFO – 7:7
- Fly in Wednesday morning
- Fly out Wednesday morning
- 4 hours' paid travel time on the 8th day
This is an excellent opportunity for an environmental professional looking to take ownership of
meaningful environmental and closure outcomes within a mining operation.
You'll have the opportunity to broaden your technical skill set, work across environmental
compliance and mine closure, and contribute to projects that will have a lasting impact on the
site's rehabilitation and long-term environmental performance.
We are looking for someone who is curious, proactive and keen to keep developing. If you're
looking for a role where you can expand your environmental expertise rather than simply
maintain the status quo, we'd like to hear from you.
Two Opportunities Available
Position 1: Immediate requirement – target commencement Wednesday, 2 September
Position 2: Anticipated commencement October/November
